One of the most delicious summer berries is raspberry. Its appearance, smell, color, shape and size are familiar to everyone from childhood. Initially, raspberries were harvested from forests. Then the plant was domesticated, a huge number of garden varieties were bred. Today, on almost any personal plot, you can find bushes of a wide variety of plant species, among which there are rare innovative developments of scientists. One of the most interesting and favorite varieties of gardeners is the Indian Summer raspberry.
Features of raspberry bushes and berries of "Indian Summer"
The raspberry variety "Indian Summer" is the first remontant type of garden bushes, the branches of a fruit plant rise up to 1.5-2 meters. The difference in the variety is that the gardener can pinch the top, reducing the spreading of the crown. The leaves do not cover the fruits, they allow you to see the whole harvest. They are large enough in shape, embossed and dark green. The creator of the variety is Professor I. Kazakov. He crossed two developments of scientists: Kostinbrodsky and Novost Kuzmina. The breeder took the best qualities, added to the existing characteristics resistance, duration and gradual ripening of fruits. The result is the creation of the Indian Summer berry variety.
Raspberries are zoned for cultivation in the Central, North Caucasian and Western regions. The variety is not suitable for the southern territories, since it does not like drought and hot weather conditions. The berry will not yield a harvest in cold climates. The variety is frost-resistant, withstands temperatures of 30 degrees. At lower temperatures, the bush dies. You can cover the roots of raspberries with snow and special structures.
- The shape of the raspberry fruit is oval, oblong.
- The weight is small (3-3.5 grams).
- The color is dark crimson.
Most of the crop comes from the top of the branches. The fruits are easily removed from the stalk, retaining integrity and attractiveness. Up to 3 kg of berries can be harvested from one raspberry bush. To get a crop twice a season, plants of different ages are kept on the site: one- and two-year-olds. The first harvest will begin in June and will last until early October, the Indian summer season. If you deal only with annuals, the harvest will ripen later - by August, but there will be more of it, the fruits are riper and tastier.
Important! The root system of raspberries is very strong, with proper care it easily tolerates winter frosts and various diseases.
Caring for the bushes of "Indian Summer"
Raspberry "Indian Summer" by the description of care is similar to the work on the cultivation of other varieties of berry bushes. To get good fruits, a rich harvest, you need to know and follow a number of simple rules:
- Raspberries love sunlit places. For planting, it is advised to choose the southern and illuminated part of the site.
- A moisture-loving plant requires constant watering.
- There should not be a lot of moisture so that root rotting does not begin. Over-saturation of water can lead to waterlogging of the soil and death of the plant.
- The soil under the plant should be loosened, weeds should be removed.
- It is recommended to constantly fertilize the soil with humus, mineral or organic fertilizers.
During the growth period near the Indian Summer raspberry bush, remove excess shoots. On the remaining stems and shoots, the fruits will be larger. To avoid contamination of the plant, it is advised to regularly loosen the soil, allowing air to reach the roots. The raspberries should not be allowed to grow, forming solid dense thickets. The harvest can be used fresh, for making homemade preparations: compotes, jam, preserves. Varietal raspberry is a medicinal berry. During a cold, people who eat raspberry products experience a decrease in temperature and increased sweating.
Important! Shrub leaves can also be beneficial for health problems. Healers prepare medicinal decoctions and tinctures from dry and fresh leaves.
Planting and breeding varieties
It is recommended to plant seedlings of a varietal plant in the spring, when the weather becomes warm. Another landing period is autumn, before the onset of cold weather. Young shoots of raspberries will be able to take root and bear fruit during the planting season. The work requires a competent horticultural approach. The correctness of the actions will determine the amount of raspberry harvest "Indian Summer", the taste and quality of berries.
- To begin with, you need to prepare recesses 50x50 cm in size. The distance between the recesses is at least 1m.
- Placing the seedlings in the groove, the roots are carefully bred to the sides, and the buds are left on the surface.
- The soil in the pit is fertilized with peat or humus. Only nutrient-rich soil will yield high yields.
- After the completion of the work, approximately a bucket of water is poured under each plant.
Every year at the end of autumn and after the last berries are harvested, pruning is carried out. At this stage, remove all shoots and stems that are two years old. If some of the branches cannot be cut, then exactly the same pruning can be repeated in the spring. The more the shoots on the stem are cut, the later the harvest will appear, the healthier and tastier the fruits will be. In addition, the shape of the berries will change - they will become more elongated.
Reproduction of the remontant variety of raspberries "Indian Summer" is carried out by a method peculiar for this species. The basal shoots are left to grow for the next season, the remaining branches are removed. The raspberry bush formation is repeated every year.
Advice! Gardeners recommend cutting out only the central part, leaving the side branches free. If everything is done correctly, then new fruiting sprouts will begin to grow from the root.
Testimonials
Reviews of gardeners characterize the raspberry variety "Indian Summer" as tasty and fruitful. The disadvantages include low portability. Small fruits are taken by the amount and growth time. It's nice to enjoy fresh, tasty and aromatic berries until the fall, which are also healthy. The variety "Indian Summer" is no longer young, but it remains popular with gardeners today.

I try not to mix the raspberry variety "Indian Summer" with other plants. It is planted separately along the path into the garden. The berries ripen gradually, practically all summer and autumn you can enjoy the fresh harvest. There is no need to rush with homework. All summer long, slowly, you can pick berries, cook them for the winter in different forms.

Raspberry "Indian Summer" is pleasant for several reasons. The bush is low, not spreading, does not require special care. The berry is not large, but beautiful and tasty. Most of all, the bush bears fruit all summer long. In autumn, when all other fruits have already ripened and departed, ripe raspberries decorate the site, delight the whole family.

The harvest of "Indian Summer" is enough to enjoy fresh fruits and prepare homemade preparations. The stems do not require additional devices, they stand level, do not break from the wind, do not bend from the rain.
